At the North Sea beach / Soaked in rain but happy! |
3 cars, 13 people and 8 stops in Zeeland region of Netherlands. Heavy rain didn't scare away internationals for taking a trip and discover some beautiful sceneries. Zeeland region consists of numbers of islands in the North Sea but actually this is what makes it special in landscapes. Rain is one of the typical things there so we had a full Zeeland experience and can't complain about it!
Our trip started in the White House kitchen waiting for late people (note to Koenraad if he is reading this right now). Then we headed from Kortrijk and drove about 1,5 hours. First stop seemed to be in the middle of nowhere but Gavin who lives in Zeeland told us some facts about land of this region. Since it's very watery region Dutch people use windmills to pull the water out of the ground so they can grow tulips or vegetables. Then we visited his house and were very nice welcomed with delicious cinnamon buns. Thanks Gavin!
Next stop was at the beach. We quickly jumped out of the cars in the rain and took some selfies. Probably the North Sea didn't like us as visitors as it expressed anger by huge waves 😄.

Next stop was at the bunkers. These are defensive military fortifications used in World War II. Soldiers lived there and used it as protection to avoid shootings. Surprisingly, these bunkers were not underground as I thought they usually were.

Since Zeeland is surrounded by water you can spot a lot of light houses which show the ways in the sea for sailors. One of them was in Westkapelle. Usually the light house there is closed but our friend Daphne who lives in this town made a suprise and arranged us a visit and joined the trip after. I have never been inside a ligh house before so for me it was interesting to find out how the light works there. And the scenery from the top was also very nice. Thanks Daphne!

Veere was another stop. It seemed a very small town but interesting to explore. All the streets were decorated with flags from celebration of King's day a few days before our trip. Little boats by the bay made you to want to go sailing. Also, we went to a vintage candy shop where I found this candy that looked like a wooden stick. Literally it is a root of a tree that you can chew and it tastes sweet. Just it was difficult for me to realize the fact I was actually eating something from the ground so it was very weird 😄.

You haven't been to Netherlands if you didn't see a windmill |

After Veele we stopped to try some fried fish in a popular restaurant. Also, there was some good sceneries to enjoy the food with!

I really considered going for a swim. Just not in that weather... |
Our last stop was lambs' far where usually Daphne helps to take care of them. All the lambs were so funny that we couldn't stop imitating their sounds. Daphne let us feed them straight from the hands. This was a great ending of our trip.
